Riku is fifteen, and it's the last day of school.

He's down at the beach, having cleared out of the Academy the second the bell went off. No hanging around there for him - he'll be as social as expected during the school year, but now? He's been freed from his captivity!

Every year he has a certain sort of ritual. He used to get in trouble for it when he returned home, but now his parents are used to it. They sort of sigh and shake his head at him.

The ritual involves getting his uniform as dirty as possible, in all the ways he couldn't have dared even a few weeks ago. Not if he was trying to avoid a million demerits, anyway.

This year, his solution is to the problem is to dig a hole in the mud. He's got most of the uniform off, scattered nearby. The only thing that's left is the pants, and a partially buttoned up dress shirt.

He's digging this hole real deep. He'll leave the rest of the clothing in there awhile, and come back to find it later. Like... a time capsule! But far more satisfying.

And if it washes away, all the better. He'd rather not see any of it again. Even if he has to return to school in three months time.

There is a ten year old boy, crouched on the little outpost in the water. He is by his usual spot - underneath the paopu tree.

He doesn't look very happy to be there.

The school uniform he's been forced to wear could account for this. While he knows that he has to put this on and start fresh at his school every single year, he really dreads it. He hates having to go to that stuffy old place, and he hates having to read about boring things. And he especially - especially - hates having to wear a uniform.

It's the first day of school today, and he's supposed to be at school in an hour. He'll make it there, he wouldn't dare to be late. No matter how brave Riku is, he's not an idiot, and the punishment that would befall him was too great to risk.

So he's just sticking around here for a little bit. Just to think, yeah. His finger is absently tugging at his collar, as he stares at the ground below him. He'll get demerit points off for the collar, later. It's already wrinkled, and by the time he's done with it, it'll be hopeless.

But what do you expect? He's a ten year old boy.

And he doesn't want to go to his first day of school.
