Even the best of fighters get taken off-guard sometimes. No matter how much pride you have in your abilities, and no matter how enemies you have defeated - there will always be the one, two, three or more that can knock you down where you stand.

Riku has spent weeks upon weeks on his feet, hardly stopping for a rest to gather his energy. It should be of no surprise that he was finally overcome. No surprise to anyone else, at least - he is doing a rather good job maligning himself because of this.

Not that he is able to do much else. He's really not in the shape to head somewhere, at the moment - so all he can really do is think about this situation.

He's in an alleyway of The World That Never Was, slumped to the ground and leaning heavily against a wall. This is where he managed to retreat to, after several Nobodies overwhelmed him. He's alone - for now. If he doesn't manage to get out of here, he'll be found soon enough.

But he's bleeding from numerous places, and he's in more pain than he would like. Right now, the most appealing thing seems to be to rest... and he really can't get over this urge.

Riku probably needs some help, here. Too bad he's all alone...

Riku is fifteen, and it's the last day of school.

He's down at the beach, having cleared out of the Academy the second the bell went off. No hanging around there for him - he'll be as social as expected during the school year, but now? He's been freed from his captivity!

Every year he has a certain sort of ritual. He used to get in trouble for it when he returned home, but now his parents are used to it. They sort of sigh and shake his head at him.

The ritual involves getting his uniform as dirty as possible, in all the ways he couldn't have dared even a few weeks ago. Not if he was trying to avoid a million demerits, anyway.

This year, his solution is to the problem is to dig a hole in the mud. He's got most of the uniform off, scattered nearby. The only thing that's left is the pants, and a partially buttoned up dress shirt.

He's digging this hole real deep. He'll leave the rest of the clothing in there awhile, and come back to find it later. Like... a time capsule! But far more satisfying.

And if it washes away, all the better. He'd rather not see any of it again. Even if he has to return to school in three months time.

There is a ten year old boy, crouched on the little outpost in the water. He is by his usual spot - underneath the paopu tree.

He doesn't look very happy to be there.

The school uniform he's been forced to wear could account for this. While he knows that he has to put this on and start fresh at his school every single year, he really dreads it. He hates having to go to that stuffy old place, and he hates having to read about boring things. And he especially - especially - hates having to wear a uniform.

It's the first day of school today, and he's supposed to be at school in an hour. He'll make it there, he wouldn't dare to be late. No matter how brave Riku is, he's not an idiot, and the punishment that would befall him was too great to risk.

So he's just sticking around here for a little bit. Just to think, yeah. His finger is absently tugging at his collar, as he stares at the ground below him. He'll get demerit points off for the collar, later. It's already wrinkled, and by the time he's done with it, it'll be hopeless.

But what do you expect? He's a ten year old boy.

And he doesn't want to go to his first day of school.

Riku's not sure where he's found himself this time. He'd been continuing his never-ending search for Sora andorand Roxas, but apparently it'd led him off course. The place almost reminds him of the shadow realms - almost.

It's the dark halls of a cave, one which seems to be deep and almost impenetrable. There's mists all around - they occasionally tickle his nose - and there would be a lack of light, if not for the torches. Those are what convinces him that he's not exactly in Kansas anymore. Light would not survive on the other side, after all.

There's strange items in hollow alcoves along the cave wall. Riku can't exactly recognize them, but they do seem to radiate some form of important. One, a sword - another, a helmet. Another, a... dinosaur bone?

Well. In any case, it might be an interesting place to explore, if not for the fact he needed to be elsewhere. But he doesn't just want to cast an exit out, without knowing where he is. That was more dangerous than necessary.

So he starts to walk, a bit. And hope that he runs into someone.

But knowing his luck, he won't find anyone at all.

The setting is quite familiar: it's Destiny Islands, just like it always was. The water is a constant sound, a musical to one's ears. The fish are avoiding being caught by Selphie, and Tidus and Wakka are sparring on the beach.

And one teenage boy, by the name of Riku, is sitting at his usual spot under the papoa tree.

He doesn't seem to be doing much at first glance. All he's doing is sitting, his head tilted up, staring at the sky. But those who know him -well- would be able to see that he's thinking.

What he's thinking about is a mystery, though. One might want to ask him. Or if someone's really up to trying their luck... they can sneak up on him.

We'll see if he's paying attention.
